Despite our shared grief in the aftermath of 9/11, hope, resilience, and unity lifted us up as a nation. Twenty years later, these lessons are more important than ever. Today, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum stands a beacon of healing and renewal – a physical embodiment of the compassion we showed to one another, the resolve we demonstrated to the world, and how, in the face of unfathomable loss, we rose as one.

Many of us still vividly recall the beauty of the clear blue sky on that unforgettable September morning, which later became the backdrop for the tragic events that followed. As we mark 20 years since the 9/11 attacks, we invite you to share your own message of tribute to our Blue Sky Remembrance Wall. Your note and authentic reflections will help us remember all who were killed and honor the service and sacrifice of the brave first responders who ran toward danger to save others.
In addition, we invite you to Remember the Sky on the day of the anniversary. Wherever you are this year, on September 11, 2021, please join us in active remembrance by posting a picture of the sky to Instagram, using the #NeverForget911 hashtag. Regardless of the color of the sky that day – even if yours isn’t clear and blue – your participation can make a difference.
For younger Americans, 9/11 is not a memory lived but history learned, and your partnership will ensure that a new generation understands the lessons of 9/11 as — together — we fulfill our collective promise never to forget. No matter the weather, we hope you will share a photo on 9/11/2021.
